Sometimes, you try to go do a hike that you have marked in your book, and the trail is closed due to hazardous conditions. Then you berate yourself for not checking the site before you left, and contemplate just doing the damn hike anyways. How bad can it be? You will be shocked to know that Tupes and I made the life-preserving decision to get back in the car and go home. I just know that family members and friends are beginning to take bets on how I'm going to end up dead while exploring, and I don't want to give them the satisfaction.
Here are some pics from around the area. I will head back later this spring. The boat ramp aka slip-n-slide to death was an interesting experience. The dog just kept sliding down the thing and I thought she was going to end up in the river.
We did take a little side trip and the way back towards Estacada at a site known for rockhounding.

Best laid plans and course correction. The white rock is a pitted agate. I also found some lava studded with gems and some giant I-don't-know-what.
