I love, love, love the Oregon coast. I had the opportunity to go with my fella awhile back. It was like surfer-boy-and-city-girl-do-the coast. He showed me the popular surf spots...Kelly's and Short Sands, and I showed him Hug Point with a bit of unplanned rock climbing at Cape Lookout. Just so everyone is aware...Hug point is a total hit with the ladies. I mean, not with me because I accidentally got caught in the tide after scavenging on a cliff face and soaked my phone and stuff, but for most peeps it is a solid, take-your-significant-other-there-to-make-them-all-woozie-spot. Me, I just embarrassingly walk back to the truck soaking wet, having lost all of my pride and praying to the cell phone gods that my photos will be retrievable.
I struggle in capturing perspective and size at times. I think, sometimes you just have to stick a person next to a tree to actually show how big the tree was...but, I also kind of feel like people pollute photographs, so I'm a bit stuck there. I still struggle with steepness. There are some steep spots at Cape Lookout. I tried to document it, and basically failed.
At the "end" of the trail, you can saunter under the barrier and literally rock climb down the face of the cape to the previous trail, which continued to wind around the rocks to the beach below. Now, this was for real. And, I am stupid, because I did it without any training, a helmet, and my dog clutched under my right arm. Um...but I found a really cool giant egg shell...check it...perspective because it is in my hand. Anyone know what it is? Me, neither.
In June there are kite festivals on the Oregon coast. Everything fills up fast, but we were able to sneak a spot at Kelly's Marina. So, fun fact, all of the campsites in Oregon are basically booked months in advance...like 9 months in advance. Several select locations actually have first come, first served places available. One of those is the surfer's haven, Kelly's Marina. Hey, it's cheap and they also have fresh crab. We had driven around with spotty cell service, getting increasingly hangry and this campground was a freakin' miracle. I may have felt somewhat differently when I was awoken at 7 am on Sunday by a man chain sawing a giant stump 50 ft from our tent. Rude.
How stinkin' cute is Tupes by fire-light? I mean, that is true beagle love emanating from those dewy eyeballs.
Next up was exploring Short Sands. There are tide pools to explore, a cave and a waterfall. It's a cute little hidden beach at the end of trail. If you don't know where to look, you will probably miss it.

Hug Point was the last point of interest on our coastal jaunt...and it's a good thing because all of my clothes were either dirty or wet. I don't do well in those conditions. On other days when I have visited, the rocks seem like they are covered in steel and copper when the light bounces off the algae. The sun was a bit higher and everything was super green when we went. Now, don't do what I did. Watch the tides and don't get caught. I totally thought I was on top of it and watching, and in less than a minute I was in trouble. Did I mention I dipped the Tupes in the ocean as well as myself and the phone? Yeah, she wasn't looking at me as lovingly on Sunday as she was Saturday night, I can tell you that...
And the pics were retrieved...obvi. IPhone for the win!!!
